Super Smash: Northern Knights Vs Central Districts Analysis

Venue: Mount Maunganui

Pitch & Conditions:

The wicket at Maunganui has been really good for batting, but quality seamers do extract some early swing.

Weather Update:

Rain is forecasted for the whole day at Mount Maunganui & chances of a full game are bleak.

The last Supersmash game between Auckland & Wellington was abandoned due to rain (at Auckland) & the forecast suggests, this game will be no different.

Expected Playing 11:

Northern Knights:

Corey Anderson is added to the squad & should replace Bocock in the eleven.

Devcich, Seifert (wk), Brownlie (C), Flynn, Anderson, Mitchell, Santner, Hampton, Kuggeleijn, Sodhi, Randell.

Central Districts:

Worker, Cleaver (wk), Young, Bruce (C), Clarkson, Barnett, Bracewell, Wheeler, Murray/Leopard/Ludick (any one), Rance, Tickner.

*CD’s batting order is a bit unpredictable, because their regular openers are unavailable right now & they also have two potential debutants in their squad who were regular part of the Ford Trophy team.

*Cleaver isn’t a regular opener but have opened for CD in few games last season.

Noema Barnett is also someone who can be used as a pinch hitter or a floater who can bat in the top 4 as the situation demands.

*Apart from Cleaver & Young, every other player in the side can bowl. Clarkson rarely bowls nowadays, so Bruce will have at least 8 bowling options available in the side. (Including himself)

My Dream11 Team:

Wk: Seifert

Batsmen: Bruce, Brownlie, Young, Mitchell.

All-rounders: Devcich, Worker, Bracewell/Santner

Bowlers: Sodhi, Rance, Wheeler.

My Power players:

(Also your captain’s choices for small leagues)

Devcich: Failed with the bat in the last game but picked 4 wickets in a high scoring game. Not going to have such a great day with the bowl everytime, but you certainly can expect him to perform with the bat consistently.

Mitchell: Probably the most improved cricketer in NZ domestic cricket right now. Although he’s going to bat very low but still his contributions of a quick 25-30 with a wicket or two consistently, makes him a very reliable choice.

Worker: Apart from that inning of 99 against Ind A, he hasn’t done anything significant from quite long. But still he’ll be a popular captain’s choice due to his past numbers in domestic limited overs tournaments.

Good Luck & do upvote if you like the analysis.
